How to Operate a Home-Based Bakery
I am always asked about the course I teach for the Wake County Public School System Lifelong Learning Program. The course is titled How to Operate a Home-Based Bakery and help home bakers start a small home-based bakery. There really are only about twelve states that all bakers to bake low risk baked goods from home for profit.
The class is at the Reedy Creek Middle School (930 Reedy Creek Road) in Cary, North Carolin and the course fee is $145. The class meets once a week for four weeks from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. The class is a hybrid, and allows students to participate in online discussions if desired. Whether you prepare dynamic biscotti or bake amazing wedding cakes you will find the information you need to start your home-based baking business.
Several types of food processing in the “home kitchen” are permitted by the
various Departments of Agriculture. This class focuses on the operation of home-based bakeries; namely foods that are not “potentially hazardous foods, e.g. baked goods, candies, dry spices and mixes.” Students will learn:
- Home-based baking state/federal rules and regulations
- Food Safety and Sanitation tips
- Home-based bakery set-up
- Insurance, packaging and label requirements
- Naming your business, marketing, branding
- Pricing strategies
- Recipe development
- Selling products online and more
How to Operate a Home-Based Bakery Online Course
The online course covers the same information as the face-to-face course with the exception students have access to the course material for 90 days. All students may log in and out of the course when they want and can access all of the materials and resources 24/7. The online course is instructor guided and student may schedule private chats when needed. This is the perfect course for the busy baker. The course fee is $145.00.
