Human beings can talk themselves out of anything, dare I say everything; then wonder why they have nothing. We have learned to use every excuse in the book so we don’t have to follow-up, follow-through and do. I recently received a long list of questions from a woman who wants to start a home bakery and mobile dessert truck, selling cupcakes and jumbo cookies to the uptown lunch crowd in her city.

I was recently going through all of the cottage food laws to decipher which one was the best in the nation and although the only one I found to be great was North Carolina’s there are bits and peaces of other cottage food laws that stand out in a good way. Michigan passed their cottage food law this summer and although there is a limit to the about of revenue you can pull in per year, $15000.00 or less; the types of products a home food processor can make is amazing.

So you want to start a mobile food truck business? Well, before starting your mobile food biz you will need to do quite a bit of homework and ask yourself a few questions. If you have never seen mobile food trucks in your community, there is probably a reason for that; they may not be allowed.
Does your city/town allow mobile food trucks? Do you know where to go to get that information?
If you live in a home-based baking/food processing state, where you can bake from home and sell to the public, you’ll need to see if that is allowed or if you will need to produce your products in a licensed commercial kitchen.
